Alan On Tour In The Pacific Northwest.

Have you tried to make any travel plans lately? If you have, you probably have searched and searched the web till your head was spinning. What you need to do is find a good professional consultant. A good travel consultant can find you deals that are not available on the web and can save you hundreds of dollars on cruises and tours. They can also give you great advice for your trip, such as little known places to visit at your destination.

There has been lots of talk as of late that Travel Agents are a dying breed. Not so, they are not only alive and kicking, but more and more travelers are turing to them for help in booking their vacation travel. So a tip to the savvy traveler or the novice traveler, use a travel agent and save lots of time and money!

No Free Pillows for YOU! On Jet Blue..

Posted by thetraveldoctor on August 4, 2008

Jet Blue aircraft on taxi

Jet Blue aircraft on taxi

Well, here is the next thing that an airline has found to charge the traveling public for. Pillows and blankets, that’s right,  Jet Blue is selling a pillow-blanket kit for $7 on flights of 2 hours or more. What will those marketing geniuses come up with next!

Now there is an upside to this. There has been a lot of talk about how airline pillows and blankets on the aircrafts harbor all types of germs. So with this sealed pillow-blanket kit, it is a one use deal and it is made from MicronOne fabric which blocks all micro-toxins larger than one micron in size, such as dust mites, mold spores, pollen and pet dander. Oh, and you can take it home with you and bring it on your next flight.

So, if you don’t want to pay $7 for a pillow and blanket, you will have to bring your own from now on on Jet Blue. I am still waiting for the airlines to charge fifty cents to use the toilet!

Some Free Transportation in Las Vegas from The Travel Doctor

Posted by thetraveldoctor on July 30, 2008

Looking North From The MGM

Looking North From The MGM

There is all types of ways to get around the City of Las Vegas and the Strip. But did you know that there are numerous ways to get around for free.  The following are just a few ways.

The Barbary Coast Casino offers a free shuttle between the Orleans Hotel, Gold Coast Hotel and the Barbary Coast. The shuttles run every 20 to 30 minutes from 9AM to Midnight.

If you love trams like I do, then you will enjoy the two free trams on the Strip. The first one runs between Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay Bay. There is a local tram that makes all three stops and there is also an express tram that runs nonstop from Mandalay Bay to Excalibur. The trams run every 3 to 7 minutes 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. The second free tram runs between the Mirage and Treasure Island. The shuttle runs every 10 min and starts at 9AM and ends at Midnight.

The Rio Suites has free shuttle service between Caesar’s Palace, Bally’s, Paris and Harrah’s. The shuttles run every 30 minutes. The Shuttle’s start at 10AM and run to 1AM Monday thru Wednesday and to 4AM on Thursday and Sunday.

I hope you try these free ways to get around Las Vegas. I have and I really had fun! Let me know if you try it by leaving a comment.

Delta goes to $50 on Second Checked Bag!!

Posted by thetraveldoctor on July 29, 2008

Delta Airlines announced today that they are increasing the fee from $25 to $50 for a second checked bag.

I have to give credit to Delta for not charging for the first bag. American, United and US Airways are charging $15 for the first checked bag.

Delta states that the fee increase is essential to generate the necessary revenues to offset record fuel prices. What they don’t get is that people will just stop flying or cut back on how much they fly. This is not the answer, it is just a ban-aid.

I don’t know when all of this airline fee nonsence will end, but it has to end soon or soon there will only be 2 or 3 airlines left. Until then, hold on to your wallets….it’s going to be a bumpy ride!

Gas, A Pain in The Wallet

Posted by thetraveldoctor on July 6, 2008

With Gas prices approaching $5 a gallon in The City of Chicago, I wanted to see what gas was going for in Dubai in the Middle East. Currently, one gallon of regular gasoline will set you back $1.42 a gallon in Dubai and in Saudi Arabia they are paying $0.99 a gallon.

I find it amazing that the price of oil on the world market is going through the roof and it’s all speculation. The oil ministers have told the world that they have plenty of oil and there is NO OIL SHORTAGE!

The good news is that people are driving less, as they cannot afford to fill their gas tanks. And the higher oil goes, the less people will use and the faster we in the US will find alternative fuels. Mark my words, if oil keeps rising at this record pace, slowly but surely, we will build vehicles that don’t use oil and then the oil producing nations will have no place to sell their oil.

Americans are very resourceful, and when they get kicked in the head one to many times, they find another way to do the same thing, but cheaper and better. Look for electric cars, more hydroelectric plants and more nuclear power plants by 2015.

Energy independence, that’s what the American People will achieve!
